The satellite is designed to observe interference that impacts global navigation satellite systems from low Earth orbit. GATE Space leads the BEACONSAT project, providing the propulsion system, spacecraft structure, and thermal management technology. Originating in 2022 as a TU Wien spin-off, the Austrian firm specializes in spacecraft propulsion solutions. Its propulsion systems have undergone more than 8,000 hot-fire tests in atmospheric and vacuum environments. Additionally, the project received approximately 750,000 euros in Austrian public funding to support technological advancements.
Other industry partners contribute critical systems for the satellite’s navigation monitoring mission. Graz-based IGASPIN supplies technology designed to detect and analyze interference affecting global navigation satellite systems. Denmark’s Space Inventor provides additional hardware, including the onboard computer. The European Space Agency also backs the project via its Marketplace program, which enables testing of commercially developed space systems in operational conditions for technology demonstration missions.

BEACONSAT’s focus lies on collecting interference data rather than weapon deployment or offensive functions.
