CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring a new variable-aperture camera along with the A20 Pro processor. These models also offer extended battery life, advanced professional camera controls, and a smaller Dynamic Island. Both devices run on iOS 27 and include Apple Intelligence capabilities, such as Siri AI. The lineup is available in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open on September 12, with the first retail units available starting September 18.

The 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera debuts aperture control on the iPhone for the first time. Six laser-cut blades adjust between four aperture levels to regulate light intake and depth of field. Users can manually select these settings within the Camera app. Additionally, new Pro controls grant quick access to shutter speed and white balance. A histogram feature allows photographers to monitor exposure in real-time while composing shots. Apple has also enhanced Photographic Styles with options for texture and grain adjustments to fine-tune images before sharing.

Video recording capabilities receive several enhancements across the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Users can add Cinematic effects after recording footage at up to 60 frames per second. The new time-lapse mode now captures in 4K with Dolby Vision HDR. Improved Audio Mix algorithms enhance voice clarity and enable music isolation. The Reference Image feature records signed sensor data in an optional Reference mode, while Private Cloud Compute creates a reference image that users can compare with the original photo within the Photos app.

Camera control and image verification improvements

The A20 Pro chip, built using a 2-nanometer process, combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU offers performance up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. A Dual 16-core Neural Engine provides 32 cores dedicated to AI processing and computational photography. The company also redesigned its thermal system with a next-generation vapor chamber, which has three times the surface area of previous designs. This upgrade supports up to 40% higher sustained performance, according to Apple’s testing results.

Battery life improves across both Pro models, with eSIM-only variants gaining extra capacity thanks to the removal of the physical SIM tray. The iPhone 18 Pro provides up to 36 hours of video playback under Apple’s testing conditions, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max extends that to 45 hours. Wired fast-charging can reach 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes. eSIM-only versions will launch in Bahrain, Canada, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other markets supporting the technology.

Siri AI and iOS 27 amplify software enhancements

iOS 27 introduces Siri AI as part of the latest Apple Intelligence update. The beta rollout begins on September 14 for supported devices configured in English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is scheduled for October. Siri AI leverages personal context from messages, emails, and photos to respond more intelligently to user inquiries. It can also interpret on-screen content and assist via the Camera app. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s worldwide marketing chief, emphasized the improvements in camera, performance, battery life, and intelligence features.

Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. Both models offer storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. Customers in over 65 countries and regions can pre-order starting at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. The initial sales will commence on September 18 in select markets. An additional 20 countries and regions will receive the new models on September 25, completing the announced rollout plan.
